Cartier Ronde Must 1800
Cartier Ronde Must 1800
With the quartz crisis looming brands, including Cartier, had to get creative. From the brands inception through the mid 20th century, Cartier predominantly encased there watches in precious metals. As a means of lowering cost and therefor lowering the price point of entry into the prestigious brand, Cartier launched the "Vermeil" case. It involved a process by which gold was plated on top of a sterling silver base. Less precious metal coupled either a handwound movement (ETA based) or Quartz further reduced production costs allowing for a more accessible price point for the masses.
