Eterna - Matic
Eterna - Matic
Eterna was founded by Dr. Joseph Girard and Urs Schild in 1856. A luxury swiss watch brand, "Eterna" initially appeared on some dials as the name of a particular collection. Its logo, five balls, represents Eternas innovation for the automatic movement: five ball bearings strategically placed such that the movement was made very efficient with significantly reduced friction on the oscillating weight that wound the mainspring.
ABOUT THIS WATCH:
MANUFACTURER: Eterna
MODEL: Eterna-Matic
REFERENCE: Unknown
SERIAL: 4373896
YEAR: 1960s
DIAL: The original Eterna dial was born silver; however, over time has patinated to a beautiful tobacco yellow. The dial presents with what can be described as radium burn: the original radium hands remained in one location for a long time and as a result have darkened specific areas of the dial. The dial sports circular applied minute markers and applied baton hour markers. It features dauphine hands that appear to have been relumed sometime in the past.
CASE: The 33.5mm stainless steel case is in good shape. The lugs and bezel retain their original beveled edges. The case presents with wear commensurate for its age. It is completed by original "5 ball bearing" crown. It's diameter is 33.5mm with a lug to lug of 40mm and thickness of ~10mm.
MOVEMENT: Eterna automatic self winding movement. The movement was last serviced in January of 2023. It was timed over 24hrs while in our possession. The 24hrs included periods of wear and non-wear. Over those 24hrs the watch gained 12 seconds.
BRACELET: Comes on the lightly used, pictured B&R Bands taupe strap
