Gruen Watch Co. Precision Autowind Bumper

     This is a lovely Gruen Precision Autowind “bumper” from the early 1950’s. For those not familiar with the bumper movements, they were an early form of automatic system using a rotor that bumped off of springs giving a 1/4 wind for every rotation. The sound they make while in motion is a charming ping-pong sound akin to Baoding balls.

DIAL: The dial is a light silver and shows a few light spots of patina but adds to the overall esthetic of the watch. Radium indices and hands show lovely patina and red second hand adds a pop of color. The lugs on this one are particularly long adding to the presence on the wrist.
