Medana

     The Medana watch company was a fashion watch brand dating back to 1909. They made watches that were similar in style to much more expensive brands of their time for mass market.
     This one doesn’t resemble any particular brand of its time but stands on its own with its distinctive case styling and art deco inspired dial. What’s particularly unique about this one is the sheer size of it. Most tank style watches of this period are between 23-25mm with 16mm lugs, but this one clocks in at a whopping 28mm at its thinnest and up to 35mm when you take a true diameter measurement.
     If you have never worn a rectangular or tank style watch, you should know that they wear much differently than round watches and their presence is vertically on the wrist and not horizontally- so you can’t compare case sizes apples to apples.
     This one was once gold plated but has worn evenly and beautifully to a warm silver tone. Dating these watches is tough as there isn’t much information on the brand, but judging by the style and size, it most likely dates to the late 40’s.

DIAL: The silver dial is in good shape. There is one small scratch between the one o'clock and two o'clock hour markers. There is also some light spotting in the upper right hand corner and below the sub second dial that can only be seen at extreme angles. The dial features bronze alternating Arabic and dagger style hour markers. The dial is completed by matching pencil style hands. 

CASE: The original gold plating has worn to an even, warm silver tone. The case features a stainless steel case back. It measures 28mm at its thinnest point but true diameter comes in at 35-36mm. The case is completed by its crown which still retains its original gold tone. 

MOVEMENT: Swiss 15j The watch winds, sets and runs. It was timed over 24hrs. The 24hrs included periods of wear and non-wear. Over those 24hrs the watch gained 8 seconds per day. 

BRACELET: On the pictured 19mm Crocodile Calf strap.
