Omega introduced its “Constellation” line in the early 1950’s starting with the reference 2648. The Constellation was Omega’s top-of-the-line model, offering chronometre certified bumper automatic movements and a medallion on the caseback depicting an observatory with 8 stars - each of which represent the 8 records omega set Geneva observatory trials.
Constellations featured a variety of case and dial designs over the years. Early references in the Constellation lineage featured cases with lyre style lugs. .Later, Omega commissioned the famous Gerald Genta to redesign their iconic Constellation model where we saw the "dogleg" constellation introduced.
This reference, a 14381, represents somewhat of a transitional model as the case still retains the lyre style lugs that later references will lose while having the upgraded omega caliber 551. This particular example is one we are very pleased to offer. It features the most desirable configuration for constellation collectors - pie pan with crosshair. Adding to this examples desirability is the case material that collectors covet the most, Steel. To top it all off the watch features gold furniture which, when encased in steel, makes it rather uncommon to say the least. Enjoy SCW Fam!

ABOUT THIS WATCH:

MANUFACTURER: Omega

MODEL:  Constellation

REFERENCE:  14381

SERIAL:  179XXXXX

YEAR: 1959

CASE: The previously polished 35mm  steel case is in good shape. The case still retains strong lies on the bezel and lugs with most of the polishing being discerned on the caseback. The case presents with light wear throughout commensurate with age. The case is complete with its authentic, original decagonal omega crown. The crystal is signed and is a modern service replacement.

DIAL: The original, two-tone, pie pan with crosshair dial is in fantastic shape free of any blemishes, patina, staining or otherwise imperfections. The only thing of note is one spot near the 5 o'clock hour marker that appears to be residue from a loose radium lume plot. The dial is complete by beautiful applied gold baton hour markers with matching dauphine hands. The lume on the dial matches the hands perfectly and has taken on a charming tangerine patina.

MOVEMENT:  Omega automatic caliber 551 chronometer certified.  Automatic self winding. 24 jewels, 19800 frequency, 50hr power reserve. Service history is unknown. The watch winds, sets and runs and is keeping relatively good time over the last week.
