Omega introduced its “Constellation” line in the early 1950’s starting with the reference 2648. The Constellation was Omega’s top-of-the-line model, offering chronometre certified automatic movements. Later in the 1950s, Omega pivoted to more robust full rotor automatic movements starting with the 505 caliber in the 2852 reference, of which this is an example.
Most noteworthy about this watch (and desirable to collectors) is the exceedingly rare dial. We have an original, gilt dial. Further adding to its desirability, this gilt dial is a pie pan configuration with crosshair featuring dagger or shark tooth style hour markers. The scarcity of omega gilt dials has led to a premium for their acquisition on the vintage watch market and, as a result, become the single most copied dial variant you will come across. Indeed, the majority of black dialed omegas you come across have been refinished at one point or another in the past. This one is 100% original.
