A highly regarded and long-term collector of vintage Omega watches wrote:
"It's a rare occasion indeed to discover an Omega Constellation model that is not listed in the Omega database, but such is the case with very uncommon reference 2887. In more than two decades of collecting, I have not chanced upon this particular model." -Desmond
What makes this particular example even more special is that it comes with a very interesting provenance. The back of the caseback has an inscription that reads "U.S Navy - Robert C. Ladwig." The inscription is complete with Robert's military issued identification number. Presumably this watch was privately purchased by Mr. Ladwig himself as Omega Constellations were not known to be issued by the U.S military. One could speculate that perhaps Mr. Ladwig was an officer of some sort given the watch in question and the status that Constellations commanded back in the early 1950's.
