Rolex Datejust 16233
Rolex Datejust 16233
Two tone datejusts seem to be very controversial with people either being in the camp of I love it or I hate it. Before owning one I was firmly placed in the latter category. I thought it looked dated and was just not as timeless or classic as its monotone alternatives. I have since completely changed my opinion. I think what makes this watch is the dial. The matching yellow gold applied roman numerals against a white dial allow it to be a little more versatile as it can be dressed down more easily.
The 16233 was introduced around 1988 - an extremely special and important year - and finished its run in the mid 2000’s. It was one of the first Rolex models to feature a sapphire crystal.
YEAR: 1990s.
CASE: The 36mm has previously been polished and shows light wear from use. The anterior portion of all 4 lugs still show signs of the original brush finish. There are a few superficial scratches present on the case, bezel and clasp commensurate with use and age.
DIAL: The white dial provides a beautiful contrast to the two tone yellow gold and steel case. The white dial sports applied yellow gold roman numerals. There is a little bit of lume loss on the minute hand.
MOVEMENT: Automatic caliber 3135. Service history is unknown. The jumping date feature operates appropriately. When timed over a 24hr period the watch
BRACELET: The original two tone yellow gold and stainless steel jubilee bracelet has a moderate amount of stretch as evidenced by the pictures but is extremely comfortable on the wrist and still has some life left.
