When considering a dive watch one model comes to mind: The Rolex Submariner. Rightfully so. Sporting the crown the submariner, released in 1954, was the first watch touted to have a 100m depth rating and featured an iconic - one pretty much unchanged to this day. But what people often forget is it wasn't the worlds first dive watch.
Predating the Rolex Submariner, the Zodiac Seawolf was released at baselword in 1953. Along with the the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, the Zodiac Seawolf featured a rotating bezel and a vast array of different color configurations. Its prices were competitive - to say the least. Its affordability coupled with its touted reliability by its supporters led to many soldiers relying on it as their watch of choice during their time of service.
This one is an early Mark II dating to around 1961. The stainless case is in excellent condition, bezel rotates nicely with light friction and original cream dial with radium lume is in outstanding condition. The original rivet stretch-link bracelet is in truly amazing condition showing no signs of link failure- all spring links are holding perfectly and have the perfect amount of spring. These bracelets are the same design as the spring-rivet link bracelets as used by Rolex during this period and are rarely in working condition. 11 links are present and it comfortably fits a 7.5” wrist before any spring loading on the links- it would easily stretch to 8” or beyond. One endlink has been replaced, it is very close to the original but is slightly different missing the two center stripes.
